Chain-reaction Crash Involving 4 Vehicles in Vista Kills 2 People, Injures 1 Person
VISTA, CA (January 22, 2019) – Four vehicles collided in a chain-reaction incident in Vista in the evening on Monday, killing two people and injuring another. The January 21 accident occurred on State Route 76 on the eastbound side of the road, close to East Vista Way, Mark Latulippe said. Latulippe is a patrol officer with the California Highway Patrol.
The time was roughly 6:30 p.m.
Reports say a vehicle—described as a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck—had been traveling in the road’s left lane. The driver—identified as a man 40 years old—veered away to try to miss hitting a Hyundai Sonata that was stopped and waiting at the intersection for traffic, according to Latulippe.
The truck hit the back end of the Hyundai, which pushed the Hyundai into the rear of another vehicle, described as a Mazda SUV. The Mazda then hit the rear of another vehicle, described as a Ford Fusion, according to Latulippe.
Respondents arrived and pronounced two people who had been traveling in the Hyundai, identified as women, deceased at the accident scene. The names, ages, and cities of residence of the women have not yet been reported.
Respondents took a third person who had been traveling in the Hyundai, identified as a man, to Palomar Medical Center. The man suffered injuries that were described as major.
