Truck Hits and Kills Bicyclist on Highway 101 Near Ventura
VENTURA, CA (July 19, 2019) – On Wednesday night, a truck hit and killed a man riding a bicycle on Highway 101. The July 17 incident occurred on the northbound side of the highway, near State Beaches and to the north of it.
The time was roughly 8:52 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.
Reports say a vehicle—described as a box truck—had been heading north in the highway’s right lane. The truck hit the man and the bike, which had also been traveling in the right lane. The bicycle had been in front of the truck when the collision occurred.
The impact of the collision threw the man off the bicycle. According to reports, he died at the accident site. He was identified only as 67 years old and a resident of Oxnard. His name has not been reported.
The person who had been driving the truck—identified only as a man 26 years old, and a resident of Oxnard—called for help. The driver cooperated with investigators. His name has not been reported. Reports say the driver was not injured in the crash.
