Three 15-year-old Boys Arrested Following Fiery Crash of Stolen Vehicle in Ventura
VENTURA, CA (April 16, 2019) – Three boys, all 15 years old, were arrested when the vehicle they were riding in, which was reported stolen, collided with another vehicle in the afternoon on Monday in Ventura. The April 15 incident unfolded when a police officer saw a vehicle that looked suspicious in the area of Sperry Avenue and Valetine Road at roughly 2:05 p.m.
After running the plates, the officer discovered the vehicle was stolen, according to the Ventura Police department.
Backup was called, and the officer then tried to pull the vehicle over. The person driving the vehicle would not stop, and police began pursuing. Reports say the driver—who is a teen without a license—was going up to 50 miles per hour and ignored traffic signals. According to authorities, the pursuit went through an area south of the 101 Freeway that is industrial.
Despite a spike strip that was deployed to stop the car, the vehicle maneuvered by it and went through a stop sign, according to police. The stolen vehicle collided with another vehicle in the area where Valentine Road and Knoll Drive intersect. The stolen vehicle then erupted in flames, and both vehicles had major damage.
Respondents transported two people who had been traveling in the vehicle that the suspect vehicle struck to Ventura County Medical Center. The two victims suffered injuries that were described as minor. Their names, ages, gender, and cities of residence have not been reported.
The teen driver and two other teenagers were detained by police at the site of the collision, but two other people ran away from the stolen vehicle, traveling across the 101 Freeway. Officers found the two people beside the road, hiding inside a water culvert. The people who had been traveling in the suspect vehicle were taken into custody.
Police arrested the juvenile driver on suspicion driving a stolen vehicle, and evading arrest. Police arrested the two people who ran away from the crash site on suspicion of resisting arrest. The two other people who had been passengers were released. Investigators are continuing their examination of the details and information regarding the incident.
