San Diego, CA (January 16, 2024) – In a dramatic turn of events on Thursday night, six individuals were rescued after a US Navy MH-60R helicopter from Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron 41 crashed into the San Diego Bay.
According to US Navy Commander Beth Teach, the crash unfolded around 6:40 p.m. during day-into-night search and rescue training. The reasons behind the incident remain unknown at this time.
Safety Boat, Nearby, Comes To Rescue For US Navy Personnel in Crash
Fortuitously, a safety boat was in close proximity, leading to the successful rescue of all six crew members, including two pilots. Following the rescue, officials conducted evaluations, revealing neither critical nor life-threatening injuries among the crew.
Details regarding the cause of the crash are yet to be disclosed, as divers from Explosive Ordnance Disposal Mobile Unit (EODMU) THREE continue to assess the site.
