Plane Crashes into House in Upland Causing Fire, Killing Pilot
UPLAND, CA (November 8, 2019) – Late Thursday morning, a small plane crashed into a house in Upland, setting fire to the building, and killing the pilot. The November 7 incident occurred on West Overland Court in the 1200 block.
The time was roughly 10:56 a.m., according to Upland Police.
Reports say that according to the Federal Aviation Administration, a single-engine plane—described as a four-seat, Cirrus SR22—had left Upland’s Cable Airport before it came down onto the house.
Marcelo Blanco, who is a captain with the Upland Police, said people who saw the incident saw a parachute in the sky. Also according to some of the witnesses, the plane was at a very low altitude and may have been trying to return to the airport before the crash.
Two residents were in the house when the plane crashed down and set it on fire. The residents were identified as a father and his son, described as an infant. Neither of the two residents were hurt in the crash, according to reports.
Reports say the pilot was killed in the incident. The identity of the pilot, including the person’s name, age, gender, and city of residence, has not been reported. It is not known if anyone had been traveling as a passenger in the plane. It is not clear from reports if someone from the plane did deploy a parachute prior to the crash.
The FAA, the National Transportation Safety Board, and the office of the coroner are investigating the crash to determine what led to the incident, and how it unfolded.
According to reports, the house was completely burned.
