Two Vehicles and Union Pacific Train Involved in Collision in Ontario
ONTARIO, CA (December 10, 2018) – A collision involving two vehicles and a Union Pacific Train caused damages late Friday afternoon in Ontario. The December 7 accident occurred close to the railroad crossing at Campus Avenue.
The time was roughly 5:30 p.m.
According to Raquel Espinoza, who is a spokesperson for Union Pacific, a vehicle—described as a black SUV—attempted to turn near the railroad crossing onto State Street. A Union Pacific train struck the SUV, and the impact of the collision pushed the vehicle over the tracks. The SUV was shoved into a second vehicle, described as a white-colored car, that had been stopped and waiting to cross over from the opposite side.
The occupants of the SUV were identified as a woman, who was driving, and a man who was a passenger. According to Espinoza, it was not apparent how the SUV came to be on the tracks before it was struck by the train.
Espinoza said that no one was hurt in the incident, neither in the vehicles involved, nor the operator of the train. The identities of the people involved in the incident, their names, ages, and city of residence have not yet been reported.
Investigators from Union Pacific Railroad Police are examining the details and information to determine what caused the accident.
