Motorcyclist Killed in Multi-Vehicle Crash on I-5 Near Jamboree Road
TUSTIN, CA (June 15, 2025) — A motorcyclist was killed Sunday evening in a multi-vehicle collision that shut down several lanes of northbound Interstate 5 near Jamboree Road, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
The fatal crash was reported at approximately 8:11 p.m. on June 15, 2025. Authorities say the collision involved a motorcycle, a black SUV, and possibly a dark blue BMW. Witnesses told investigators the motorcyclist was seen swerving between lanes at high speed before slamming into the rear of the SUV.
The Unfortunate Motorcycle Rider Was Found Unresponsive In Lane 3 of the Freeway
The impact ejected the rider, who was found unresponsive in lane 3. Good Samaritans attempted to administer aid before emergency crews arrived. The Orange County Coroner was called to the scene at 8:29 p.m. and pronounced the motorcyclist dead a short time later. The victim’s identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
CHP noted that one vehicle—possibly a dark blue BMW—may have been struck in the chain-reaction crash but did not stop at the scene. The agency is working to identify and locate that vehicle.
All 5 Freeway Northbound Lanes Were Closed Triggering Significant Gridlock
In response to the severity of the crash and the extensive debris field, CHP issued a SigAlert at 8:35 p.m., closing all northbound lanes of the freeway except the HOV lane. The closure triggered significant traffic backups, with some motorists reportedly making illegal U-turns and exiting via the Culver Drive and Jeffrey Road on-ramps.
Caltrans crews assisted with a hard closure as cleanup and investigation continued late into the night. A tow truck was called to remove the heavily damaged motorcycle.
CHP investigators are examining whether speed, lane-splitting, or other factors contributed to the deadly collision. Authorities are urging anyone who witnessed the crash or has dashcam footage to contact the CHP Santa Ana office.
