Jeremiah Nugent, a Florida resident who is 47 years old, accidentally cut off his 2-year-old daughter’s feet in a mowing accident. The tragic incident took place around 7:33 p.m. on Wednesday evening.
The child has lost both feet at the ankles and injured one of her hands. Fortunately, the hand is intact. In Westlake Village of Palm Harbor, the man dragged his child under the mower before he noticed the damage that he had caused. His wife screamed out to stop him, but he was not alerted in time.
He turned off the engine after he noticed, but the mower went down the driveway. The couple tried to hold it back from rolling to no avail.
She was airlifted to a local hospital for treatment. She is being monitored currently.
Detectives are investigating the accident to see if there was a crime. So far, they do not believe there was a crime and that is was truly an accident.
Lawn mower accidents seem to happen often and usually involve children. Statistics state that 600 children need amputations every year due to a lawn mower accident.
The parents are obviously devastated and the community is mourning, but happy to have the child alive.
