5 Injured in Head-On Crash in Thousand Palms
THOUSAND PALMS, CA (October 7, 2024) – Five people were injured, some seriously, in a head-on collision on Varner Road near Bob Hope Drive early Monday morning.
The crash occurred at around 6:00 a.m. when the driver of a silver Nissan Frontier attempted to pass another vehicle. For reasons still under investigation, the Nissan collided head-on with a blue Toyota Camry carrying three passengers.
CHP Quickly Responded And Save 2 People Trapped In Their Car
California Highway Patrol officers responded quickly to the scene, rescuing two people who were trapped inside the Camry. All four individuals involved in the crash— the Nissan driver and the three occupants of the Toyota—sustained moderate to major injuries.
In a tragic turn, a Good Samaritan who had stopped to assist the crash victims was struck by an oncoming vehicle. The Good Samaritan, along with the other victims, was transported to a hospital for treatment.
Varner Road Was Closed For Several Hours
Following the accident, Varner Road was closed for several hours as authorities conducted their investigation.
Officials are reminding drivers of the dangers of passing in oncoming lanes. Motorists are urged to obey traffic laws, avoid crossing double yellow lines, and only pass when it is safe and legal.
