Crash in Thousand Oaks on 101 Freeway Kills Woman
THOUSAND OAKS, CA (March 13, 2020) – Early in the morning on Thursday, a woman was killed in a crash in Thousand Oaks on the 101 Freeway. The March 12 incident occurred on the southbound side of the freeway, near Rancho Road and to the north of it.
The time was roughly a little after 2:30 a.m., the California Highway Patrol said.
Reports say a tow truck driver called authorities to report a vehicle located at the freeway’s center divider. According to reports, the driver saw that a woman was inside the crashed vehicle, and she was not conscious. The driver of the tow truck was not able to enter the crashed vehicle.
Responders arrived and worked to free the woman from the wreckage. She was pronounced deceased at the incident site. She was identified only as a resident of Oxnard, 78 years old.
Investigators believe the woman had been heading south on the freeway and, for reasons that are not known, her vehicle went onto the shoulder on the right side of the roadway. The vehicle hit a bridge rail, and swerved across all the lanes of the southbound freeway to smash into the divider in the median.
Investigators are continuing to collect information regarding the crash.
