Woman Dies in Head-on Collision in Temecula; Teen Driver Suspected of DUI
TEMECULA, CA (June 4, 2019) – Lily Harrison died Saturday night in a head-on collision in Temecula in which two other people were injured. The June 1 incident occurred on Rancho California Road near Via Santa Rosa and to the east of it.
The time was roughly 6:45 p.m., the California Highway Patrol said.
Reports say a vehicle—described as a BMW—had been traveling west on Rancho California Road. The vehicle went out of the driver’s control at a curve in the road. According to the California Highway Patrol, the BMW may have been going as fast as 55 miles per hour when it traveled over the double lines in the center of the road and crashed into another vehicle head on. The other vehicle was described as a Toyota Corolla.
Harrison had been traveling as a passenger in the Toyota. She was killed in the collision. Harrison was 15 years old and a resident of Murrieta. The Toyota’s driver, and another passenger in the Toyota, suffered injuries which were described as major. Respondents transported both victims to a hospital in the area.
The identities of the two victims, including their names, gender, and cities of residence, have not been reported. Reports say both are 18 years old. The types of injuries they suffered, and their current condition, are not known.
The BMW rebounded from the Toyota upon impact, and went down an embankment by roughly 200 feet. The driver of the BMW suffered injuries that were described as moderate. Respondents transported him to a hospital. The types of injuries he suffered, and his current condition, are not known.
Authorities identified the driver of the BMW as Jose Zazueta, 19 years old. He was arrested on suspicion of DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter with intoxication, reports say.
Investigators are continuing the work to understand the circumstances of the crash.
