Rio Linda Pregnant Woman Loses Baby and Six Others Injured When Teen Suspect, Fleeing Authorities, Crashes into Car
RIO LINDA, CA (September 19, 2022) – On Friday night in Rio Linda, a teen suspect fleeing authorities collided with a car; six people were injured and a pregnant woman lost the baby she was carrying.
The September 16 crash occurred at Elkhorn Boulevard and Dry Creek Road.
The incident began when officers from the North Sacramento-area office of the California Highway Patrol responded to reports of reckless driving at the intersection of Dutch Haven Boulevard and Elverta Road.
When officers arrived, reports say, they found pedestrians and over 100 vehicles were blocking the vicinity of the intersection.
While officers were attempting to make the crowd leave the area, reports say, officers tried to pull a vehicle–described as a Honda Accord–over. The person who was driving the Honda Accord did not stop for officers, reports say, but fled the scene.
Officers pursued the Honda Accord. Authorities allege driver of the Honda Accord went through a light that was red and collided with another vehicle–described as a Honda Civic.
Responders found Honda Civic’s driver was pregnant; she lost her baby in the collision, according to authorities.
Responders transported the woman to the hospital for treatment of injuries that were described as major.
Her identity–including name, age, and city of residence–has not been reported.
Responders also transported a patient who had been a passenger in the Honda Civic. The person suffered injuries that were described as moderate.
The patient’s identity is not known from reports.
Authorities arrested the driver of the Honda Accord. The driver was identified only as 17 years old.
One passenger in the Honda Accord was identified also as 17 years old.
According to authorities, two other passengers of the Honda Accord were adults.
Responders transported other patients to the hospital. The types of injuries they suffered have not been reported.
No one involved in the crash has been identified by name.
Investigators are continuing their work on the crash details.
