Riverside Teen Driver Killed, Passenger Injured; Street-racing Crash Involved
RIVERSIDE, CA (August 18, 2021) – Late at night on Sunday in Riverside, a crash in which street racing may have been involved killed a teen driver and injured a passenger. The August 15 crash occurred at Jones Avenue and Magnolia Avenue.
The time was roughly 10:45 p.m., Riverside Police said.
According to Riverside Police, a Camaro and a Mustang were street racing, reports say.
The Camaro made a turn in front of the Mustang, according to Ryan Taack, who is a sergeant with Riverside Police. The Mustang went out of the driver’s control, traveled off the road, and smashed into a tree, reports say.
The person who had been driving the Camaro stopped for a few moments, and left the crash site.
Responders arrived and took the person who had been driving the Mustang to a hospital in the area. She died in the hospital.
She was identified only as a resident of Perris, 17 years old. Her name has not been reported.
Responders transported a person who had been a passenger in the Mustang to the hospital. She suffered injuries that were described as moderate.

The driver who left the scene has not been identified in reports.
