Vehicle Rear-ends Semi Truck Parked Along I-5 Freeway Near Sylmar; One Person Dies

SYLMAR, CA (February 20, 2019) – A collision in the afternoon on Tuesday on I-5 near Sylmar killed one person. The February 19 accident occurred in the freeway’s northbound lanes, close to where the 14 Freeway connects.

The time was roughly 12:25 p.m., the California Highway Patrol said.

Reports say that a vehicle—described as a Mercedes-Benz, black in color—hit the back end of a semi truck that was parked. According to the Los Angeles County Fire Department, the Mercedes was stuck under the semi.

It is not clear from reports where the semi was parked on the freeway when the Mercedes hit it. The circumstances that led to the crash have not yet been reported.

The identity of the driver of the Mercedes has not been reported, including the person’s name, age, gender, and city of residence. It is not known from reports if anyone else had been traveling in the Mercedes as a passenger at the time of the crash.

Why the semi was parked along the freeway is not known, and it has not been reported if the driver of the semi truck was in the vicinity or inside the vehicle when the Mercedes hit it.
