Crash on 210 Freeway in Sylmar Injures Five, Including Boy Ejected from Car Seat
SYLMAR, CA (February 17, 2020) – Two vehicles collided in the afternoon on Friday in Sylmar, injuring five people, including children. The February 14 incident occurred on the 210 Freeway eastbound, close to where the transition road for the northbound I-5 is located.
The time was roughly 2:10 p.m., the Los Angeles Fire Department said.
Reports say two vehicles—both describd as SUVs—collided, but the manner in which the collision occurred has not been described. It is not known from reports what the sequence of events were that lead to the crash.
Responders arrived and found that a boy—aged 3—had been ejected from the car seat he had been traveling in. The boy suffered injuries that were described as serious, and his condition is critical.
It is not known from reports which vehicle he had been traveling in. He was taken to a hospital.
Responders also transported four other victims to the hospital. The victims were identified as a girl 6 years old; a boy 12 years old; a woman 27 years old; and a woman 42 years old. The names and cities of residence of the victims have not been reported.
The conditions of the victims were described as fair to serious. It is not known which vehicle the victims had been traveling in. The drivers of each vehicle have not been identified, and the relationship of the victims to each other is not known.
Investigators are working to understand why the crash happened. They are collecting information and details.
