76-Year-Old Sy Thongdy Killed in Hit-and-Run Crash on Pacific Coast Highway in Long Beach, CA

Long Beach Man Dies a Month after Hit-and-Run Crash on PCH and Pasadena Ave.
LONG BEACH, CA (March 29, 2023) – One month after a hit-and-run accident in Central Long Beach on February 19th, Sy Thongdy passed away.
At approximately 6:34 p.m. in the vicinity of Pacific Coast Highway and Pasadena Avenue, the fatal crash occurred. As per reports, Sy Thongdy was returning home after visiting a funeral home nearby to pay his respects to a recently deceased relative. While he was crossing the street, an unidentified vehicle hit him.
The driver of the vehicle fled the scene after hitting him.
An Instagram video posted by LBCode3Media depicts paramedics treating Thongdy at the scene, where he appeared to be bloodied. He was then transported to the hospital in the back of an ambulance with injuries that authorities initially reported as non-life-threatening.
Thongdy was quickly transported to a hospital by paramedics with injuries initially deemed as non-life-threatening. However, his condition worsened, and he had to be intubated.
Pat, Thongdy’s son, expressed his deep sorrow with a trembling voice, saying, “That was the worst feeling ever. I only have one father, and he’s gone now.” It is a painful loss for the family, and our thoughts are with them during this difficult time.
CT scans indicated that Thongdy’s brain was functioning well, but he suffered from a broken rib, a fractured neck bone, and no circulation in his legs. Despite his brain being seemingly unaffected, the rest of his body was severely compromised.
During the last week, Thongdy’s organs began to fail, and on Friday, he passed away at the hospital, surrounded by his family. He was 76 years old.
Although there is currently no known suspect information yet, initial investigations indicate that the suspect’s vehicle was a dark-colored sedan. The Long Beach Police Department is currently in charge of the on-going investigation.
