Man Killed in Sun Valley Hit-and-run Crash; Suspect Flees with Help from Other Suspect
SUN VALLEY, CA (February 9, 2021) – On Saturday morning in Sun Valley, Harutiun Moukoian was killed in a hit-and-run crash. The suspect driver fled the scene with the help of another suspect, according to authorities. The February 6 incident occurred where Roscoe Boulevard and Coldwater Canyon Avenue intersect.
The time was roughly 9:00 a.m., Los Angeles Police said.
According to authorities, a vehicle–described as a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck–went through a light that was red. The pickup collided with a vehicle, described as a Morris Minor.
The truck struck the driver’s side of the British automobile broadside.
The impact of the collision sent the Chevrolet into another vehicle–described as a Pathfinder–that had been stopped at the red light, according to Lisset Fuentes. Fuentes is a detective with the Los Angeles Police Department.
The driver of the pickup truck left the vehicle, and fled in another vehicle–described as a Hyundai Tiburon, silver in color. The Hyundai had been traveling behind the Chevrolet before the collision, according to police.
Responders arrived and found the person who had been driving the Morris Minor died at the crash site. The Los Angeles County coroner’s office identified him as Harutiun Moukoian, a resident of Glendale, 58 years old.
The person who had been driving the Pathfinder was identified in reports as George Banna. According Banna, the impact from the crash sent his car into another car, which has not been described. The driver of the other car has not been identified.
Reports say people who witnessed the incident pursued the fleeing Hyundai. The people in the Hyundai were reported to have abandoned it.
Authorities found the Hyundai in Arleta, near the intersection of Stanwin Avenue and Ottoman Street.
Investigators are searching for the two suspects who fled the crash site. They have not been described.
The pickup truck was reported to have been stolen from Palmdale; the owner of the truck has not been identified.
