Driver Smashes Car into Studio City BMW Dealership

STUDIO CITY, CA (April 25, 2019) – A driver smashed a car into a BMW dealership in Studio City early in the morning on Wednesday. The April 24 incident occurred close to where Whipple Street and Lankershim Boulevard intersect, according to Greg Kraft. Kraft is an officer with the Los Angeles Police Department.

The time was roughly 2:00 a.m.

Reports say video from a surveillance camera captured the vehicle making a sharp turn in the intersection. The vehicle then smashed into a wall made of glass at the dealership, and went through it.

The vehicle was part way inside when it erupted in flames. According to Thomas Gikas, who is a battalion chief with the Los Angeles Fire Department, smoke triggered the sprinkler system in the building, and that held the fire from spreading.

Video showed the driver exiting the vehicle and walking away from it. She then spoke to a person while at the building’s front. Police arrested the driver. Her name, age, and city of residence have not been reported.

According to Gikas, two other vehicles, which were located inside the dealership, were damaged in the incident. The building did not seem to have any problems with structural integrity, reports say.
