Stockton, CA (April 6, 2023) – A 34-year-old construction worker died in a hit-and-run crash involving a driver under the influence on Highway 4 in Stockton on April 6th, Thursday evening.

According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the man was working as part of a crew cutting concrete in the third and fourth lanes when a silver 2017 Honda Accord traveling at 65 mph broke through the cones and entered the construction zone, hitting the worker. The driver, a 21-year-old Stockton resident, then fled the scene after abandoning her car.

The Victim Has Yet To Be Identified

The construction worker, whose identity has yet to be disclosed, passed away at the site of the incident. He was reportedly employed by a separate construction firm that had been contracted by Caltrans. Authorities have confirmed that the driver was under the influence of alcohol and driving erratically at the time of the accident.

After a search, the police located the driver at her home and charged her with felony hit-and-run, manslaughter, and felony DUI. Investigations into the incident are ongoing. The Stock Area CHP has urged witnesses to come forward and assist with any information they may have regarding the incident.
