Driver Runs Over Man, Twice, and Flees Scene in Spring Valley

SPRING VALLEY, CA (February 13, 2019) – A driver ran over a man, and tried again, late in the afternoon on Tuesday in Spring Valley’s La Presa area, and fled the scene. The February 12 incident occurred on Jamacha Boulevard in the parking lot of a 7-Eleven store.

The time was roughly 5:20 p.m., Garth Schick said. Schick is a sergeant with the San Diego Sheriff’s Department.

Reports say that people who witnessed the incident told officers two men were arguing close to the gas pumps. The men began to hit each other, according to Schick. After a while, the men stopped fighting, and one of the men crossed the parking lot and stood next to a vehicle, described as a white sedan.

The other man entered a vehicle—described as a Cadillac sedan, black in color—and drove toward the man standing next to the white car. He drove directly into the man, hitting him. The impact threw the victim onto the Cadillac’s hood. The victim was next thrown into the road. Reports say the victim crawled out of the street and onto the sidewalk.

The man who was driving the Cadillac traveled west on Jamacha Boulevard. He turned the vehicle about and drove on the sidewalk to try to hit the victim again, according to Schick. The Cadillac driver missed hitting the victim. The Cadillac driver drove on Jamacha Bouelvard heading east.

Respondents transported the injured man to Scripps Mercy Hospital. The injuries he suffered were described as serious, but not life threatening. The victim—identified only as 32 years old—told deputies he knew the suspected driver. He said the suspect driver was also a suspect in a strong arm robbery, which also involved the victim’s brother. The robbery had taken place earlier the same day, according to Schick.

Karla Menzies, who is a lieutenant, said that the suspect was not yet located. If anyone has information about the incident, or where the suspect vehicle is to be found, he or she should call San Diego County Crime Stoppers. The number is 888-580-8477. Tips can be made anonymously.
