Speeding Truck Loses Control, Causes Chain-Reaction Accident with 4 Cars, 2 Bicyclists, and Pedestrian in San Clemente

SAN CLEMENTE, CA (August 14, 2018) – A pickup truck that was speeding on city streets in San Clemente on Sunday lost control. It crashed into four vehicles that were parked, and also injured a pedestrian and two bicyclists.
The August 12 accident happened on Camino de Los Mares in the 700 block, between Avenida Vaquero and Calle Nuevo.
According to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, the pickup truck—described as a 2016 Dodge—was traveling east and going very fast. The pickup hit a curb, and then burst through a median that separates Camino de Los Mares’ zone of high traffic from the part of the street that is residential.
The pickup struck a pole and then crashed into four vehicles that were parked on the street. The impact caused one vehicle to hit two people riding bicycles, and another vehicle to hit a person who was walking.
The driver of the pickup truck was identified as a man in his 30s.
Responders took one of the victims by airlift to the hospital. Three other victims were taken by ambulance to the hospital, with Mission Hospital and UC Irvine Medical Center attending to the victims.
No other information was available about the identities of the people involved in the accident, or if any arrest was made.
Investigators are looking into the details of the crash.
