Boy Crossing Cole Road in South Whittier Struck and Injured by Vehicle
SOUTH WHITTIER, CA (November 19, 2019) – A teenaged boy who was crossing the street in South Whittier was struck and injured in the afternoon on Monday by a vehicle. The November 18 incident occurred near Tolman Drive and to the south of it.
The time was roughly a little after 3:00 p.m., according to the Santa Fe Springs office of the California Highway Patrol.
Reports say the boy—identified only as 13 years old—had been waiting behind a car that was parked on Cole Road until it was clear to walk. He let several vehicles pass by, according to video that was captured of the incident by a doorbell camera.
When he tried to walk across the road, a vehicle—described as a Toyota Camry—struck him. The impact threw the boy and he landed on the ground.
According to reports, a resident said the boy had been going towards his father’s vehicle, who was waiting to pick him up.
Responders arrived and took the boy to a hospital in the area. The injuries he suffered were described as major, including bones that were broken.
The person who had been driving the vehicle that hit the boy remained at the incident site. The driver was identified as Gina Lo-Bue.
