Infant Killed and Parents Injured When Driver Speeding in a Stolen Car Crashes Into Them
LOS ANGELES, CA (April 7, 2025) — In South LA, a baby was killed and both parents were seriously injured Monday night in a violent crash involving a suspected wrong-way driver in a stolen vehicle in the Vermont Square neighborhood of South Los Angeles.
The deadly collision occurred at approximately 11:33 p.m. on April 7 near 4628 South Western Avenue, close to the intersection with West 47th Street, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Suspect Was Driving At Speeds Reaching 100 mph Before Losing Control of Vehicle
Authorities said the suspect was behind the wheel of a stolen vehicle, traveling northbound on Western Avenue at speeds reaching 100 mph. The driver reportedly attempted to slow down upon spotting South LA police ahead but lost control of the vehicle.
The car crossed the center divider and slammed into the driver’s side of a southbound vehicle carrying a family of three. The impact of the crash was devastating.
The Under One Year Old Infant Was Pronounced Dead At The Scene Along With The Suspect
The infant, who was under one year old, was pronounced dead at the scene along with the wrong-way driver. The baby’s parents, a 30-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman, sustained serious injuries and were rushed to a nearby trauma center for treatment.
Authorities continue to investigate the crash and are working to determine additional details surrounding the incident, including the suspect’s identity and how the stolen vehicle was obtained.
