Bicyclist Killed by Hit-and-run Driver in South Gate
SOUTH GATE, CA (June 17, 2019) – A hit-and-run driver killed a bicyclist late Saturday night in South Gate. The June 15 incident occurred in a crosswalk on Imperial Highway where the on-ramp to the 710 Freeway is located.
The time was roughly 11:30 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.
Respondents from the Los Angeles County Fire Department arrived and pronounced the victim deceased at the site of the accident. According to Larry Dietz, who is a lieutenant with the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner, the victim was identified as a man in his 60s. The name, and city of residence of the victim has not been reported.
Reports say the person who hit the bicyclist fled the accident site. The driver has not been described, or identified. The vehicle has been described as a Ford SUV, black in color, or a pickup truck. The large vehicle hit the bicyclist as it was entering the freeway.
Investigators are continuing their work to locate the vehicle and the driver. If anyone has information about the incident, he or she should call Officer J. Vargas, who is with the California Highway Patrol. The number is 323-980-4600.
