Elmer Pinacho Killed in Deadly Wrong-way Collision on Highway 118 in Somis Involving Suspected DUI Driver
SOMIS, CA (December 26, 2018) – A person driving the wrong way in Somis, who authorities suspect was drunk, caused a collision on Highway 118 in the morning on Sunday.
The December 23 accident occurred on the highway near Aggen Road, and to the east of it. The time was roughly 12:18 a.m.
According to the California Highway Patrol, Ramon Trujillo—a 41-year-old resident of Somis—had been heading eastbound in a Chevrolet Silverado in the lane that travels westbound. He struck a Honda Accord head on that had been going west.
The impact from the crash caused the Silverado to roll over, and shoved the Honda into a power pole. The person who had been traveling in the passenger seat in front in the Honda—identified as Elmer Pinacho, an 18-year-old resident of Oxnard—died in the crash.
The person who had been driving the Honda—identified as a man 18 years old and a resident of Oxnard—suffered injuries that were described as minor.
Trujillo suffered injuries that were described as minor. According to the California Highway Patrol, Trujillo was arrested for felony gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, felony DUI causing injury, and driving with a blood-alcohol level above the legal limit.
