Car accidents can involve anyone. No one is immune from car accidents or the negligent drivers who cause them, not even Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.
After a multi-car crash outside downtown Las Vegas a few weeks ago, Reid was taken to a local hospital that afternoon as a precaution. The 72-year-old senator walked into University Medical Center Hospital under his own power.

Reid suffered from rib and hip contusions and has been cleared for release by the doctors, according to the statement from his office. Some members of his security detail, along with a staffer, also experienced minor injuries and were evaluated at UMC.
Capitol Police, who provide a security detail for top leaders including Reid, were driving the majority leader in one of the force’s top security vehicles, a Chevrolet Suburban SUV. Reid is at home campaigning for President Obama and Democratic candidates in Nevada. The accident occurred on a heavily traveled portion of I-15 just west of the Las Vegas Strip, where most of the city’s famous casinos reside.
Local media reports said as many as six vehicles were involved in what appeared to be a chain-reaction crash.
Reid and his family have had several recent instances of auto accidents and health battles. His wife, Landra Reid, who was not traveling with the senator on Friday, and their daughter were struck on I-95 by a tractor-trailer in busy traffic in December 2009, causing severe injuries to Mrs. Reid, including a broken back.
She has since fully recovered from those injuries, appearing on stage with him Election Day to celebrate his come-from-behind victory in the 2010 midterm elections. She has battled breast cancer, but Reid told local media last spring she was doing very well.
