Woman From South Pasadena and Three Other Victims Killed in Crane Collapse in Seattle
SEATTLE, WA (April 29, 2019) – Sarah Wong, a college freshman from South Pasadena, was killed in the afternoon on Saturday when a construction crane fell from a roof in Seattle and landed on the street below. Three other people were killed in the April 28 accident, which occurred when the crane fell from a building under construction for Google’s new campus on Mercer Street.
Wong had been inside a car at the time the crane fell. According to Seattle Pacific University, Wong had been planning a major in nursing. The South Pasadenan newspaper reported that Wong was a native of South Pasadena.
When respondents arrived on site, the four victims were deceased, according to Harold Scoggins. Scoggins in a Fire Chief in Seattle. Two of the victims had been inside a car when they were killed, and two of the victims were iron workers who were inside the construction crane, according to Lance Garland. Garland is a spokesperson with the fire department. The identities of the three other victims have not yet been reported.
Four other victims were injured when the crane fell. Their identities have not been reported and the types of injuries they suffered are not known. Six vehicles were damaged by the crane.
Investigators are examining the evidence, details, and information to understand why the crane collapsed. According to Tim Church, who is a spokesperson with the Washington Department of Labor & Industries, the agency is investigating four companies—GLY, the general contractor; Omega Rigging and Machinery Moving Inc.; Morrow Equipment Co. LLC; and Northwest Tower Crane Service Inc. Church did not know where each company is based, reports say.
