Santa Ysabel Head-on Crash on State Route 79 Kills One
SANTA YSABEL, CA (January 26, 2021) – On Monday morning in Santa Ysabel, a person was killed in a head-on crash in the Lake Henshaw vicinity. The January 25 incident occurred on State Route 79, near State Route 76 and to the south of it.
The time was roughly a little before 9:00 a.m., the California Highway Patrol said.
A vehicle–described as a Ford T250 van–was heading south on the roadway. It traveled over the center line and into the lane of opposing traffic. The van collided head-on with a vehicle, described as a Ford F450 truck.
The person who had been driving the van suffered injuries that were fatal, according to Travis Garrow. Garrow is a public affairs officer with the California Highway Patrol.
The person was identified only as 62 years old. The name, gender, and city of residence have not been reported.
Responders transported the person who had been driving the truck to Escondido’s Palomar Medical Center. The patient was reported to have suffered injuries that were described as minor.
The identity of the truck’s driver, including name, age, gender, and city of residence, has not been reported.
Investigators are working on understanding why the crash happened.
