Motorcyclist Killed in Collision on Highway 166 Near Santa Maria
SANTA MARIA, CA (November 12, 2018) – A collision on Highway 166 and South Thompson Road near Santa Maria killed a motorcyclist and injured a passenger who had been traveling on the bike on Saturday evening.
The November 10 crash occurred where Thompson Avenue and Wineman Road intersect, according to the California Highway Patrol. The time was roughly 7:40 p.m.
According to reports, a driver—identified as John Ricker, a resident of Arroyo Grande—had been entering the intersection of Thompson Avenue and Wineman Road in a pickup truck, and a motorcycle on which two people were riding hit him.
The impact from the collision threw both of the riders from the motorcycle. The driver of the motorcycle died at the accident scene. Responders took the person who had been riding as a passenger on the motorcycle to Marian Medical Center. Reports say one person was critically injured.
Both of the riders on the motorcycle were residents of Santa Maria. Their identities have not been reported. The types of injuries suffered have not been reported at this time.
It is not clear from reports if anyone else was injured in the collision.
Investigators are looking into the information to determine what caused the accident.
