Man Identified as Driver killed in Santa Maria Crash; DUI Suspected
SANTA MARIA, CA (February 14, 2020) – Leonel Tinoco was identified as a victim who was killed in a Santa Maria crash last Friday. DUI is suspected in the February 7 incident, which occurred on Stowell Road, close to where Blosser Road is located.
The time was roughly 1:19 a.m., Santa Maria Police said.
According to police, Tinoco struck a light pole after crossing railroad tracks, and his vehicle—which has not been described—came to a stop in the street. Not long after, another vehicle—which has also not been described—struck Tinoco’s vehicle broadside.
Responders arrived and pronounced Tinoco deceased at the incident site. He was 37 years old.
Authorities arrested the other driver on suspicion of driving under the influence (DUI). He was identified as Michael Lee, a resident of Santa Maria, 25 years old.
According to police, the men had been acquaintances, and were together a short while before the incident occurred.
Investigators are continuing their efforts to gather information and details regarding the incident. They are working to understand the circumstances and factors that contributed to the crash.
