Head-on Collision on Highway 166 Near Santa Maria Kills One Person
SANTA MARIA, CA (December 12, 2018) – A head-on collision early in the morning on Wednesday killed one person on Highway 166 near Santa Maria. The December 12 accident occurred close to Cottonwood Canyon Road.
The time was roughly 1:51 a.m.
According to reports, a pickup truck and a tanker truck collided head on. The pickup swerved into oncoming traffic, and collided with a tanker truck at a fast speed, fire officials said.
Santa Barbara County Fire respondents arrived on scene. The pickup had erupted in flames after the collision occurred. According to fire officials, the person who had been driving the pickup truck—identified as a female—was killed at the accident scene.
The tanker truck overturned and landed on its side. The person who had been driving the tanker truck was not hurt, reports say.
The name of the woman who died, her age, and city of residence has not yet been reported.
The identity of the tanker truck driver has not yet been reported.
Investigators are examining the details to find out why the crash happened.
