Santa Clarita Day Care on Seco Canyon Road Struck by Vehicle; Three Toddlers Injured
SANTA CLARITA, CA (February 23, 2021) – Late in the afternoon on Monday, a vehicle crashed into a daycare in Santa Clarita, injuring three toddlers. The February 22 incident occurred at La Petite Academy, located at 28041 Seco Canyon Road in the neighborhood of Saugus.
The time was roughly 4:40 p.m., the Los Angeles County Fire Department said.
A vehicle–described as a Honda Pilot–smashed into the building, reports say. According to reports, concrete and glass broke, and bookcases inside the building came down in an area where the children had been at play.
Three toddlers were injured in the incident. They were transported by airlift to the hospital.
The types of injuries they suffered were described as minor, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. All three children were younger than 4 years old.
Steve and Allison Adler were identified as the parents of one of the victims–Shayna, age 2. Steve Adler said Shayna had been found underneath a bookshelf after the crash.
The person who had been driving the vehicle has not been identified. According to reports, Allison Adler had recounted that staff at the day care said the driver had been a grandmother who had arrived to pick her grandchildren up.
No official identification has been made. Investigators are working to understand why the crash happened, and they are in the process of collecting details and information.
The owner of the building has not been identified in reports.
