Woman and Two Children Killed in Crash on Highway 154 in Santa Barbara

SANTA BARBARA, CA (October 30, 2019) – Rebecca Vanessa Goss Bley and two children who had been traveling in a vehicle with her were killed in a crash on Friday in Santa Barbara. The October 25 incident occurred on Highway 154, near Cold Spring Bridge and to the west of it.

The time was roughly 4:45 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.

Reports say a vehicle—described as a Chevrolet Camaro—went into the lane of opposing traffic, and hit another vehicle—described as a Chevrolet Volt—head on. Another vehicle—described as a GMC Yukon—which had been traveling in back of the Volt attempted to maneuver away, but collided with it. Both vehicles erupted in flames.

Three people who had been traveling in the Volt died at the incident site. They were identified as Bley, who had been driving the vehicle. Bley was 34 years old and a resident of Solvang. With her in the vehicle were two children, who also died.

Two people who had been traveling in the GMC were not hurt in the incident, reports say. They were identified only as residents of Los Gatos. Their names have not been reported.

The person who had been driving the Camaro was seriously injured and his condition is critical, according to reports. Responders took him by airlift to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital. He was identified as John Roderick Dungan, 28 years old and a resident of Santa Barbara.

Fire from the burning vehicles ignited brush in the area. The Santa Barbara County Fire Department said roughly two acres burned.
