SANTA BARBARA, CA (August 7, 2018) – A head-on crash involving a bicycle and a vehicle in Santa Barbara on Saturday afternoon severely injured the rider. The accident occurred on Gibraltar Road in the 2900 block, close to Cielito Road.
The time was roughly 5:00 p.m., fire Captain Dave Zaniboni said.
According to the report, a bicyclist—described as a man in his 50s—was traveling down a road that is winding and steep. The bicyclist hit a vehicle, that was heading up hill, head on.
Responders took the injured bicyclist by ambulance to a place where a Calstar medical helicopter could pick up the man. He was then transported by airlift to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital.
No other details were available. Investigators are continuing their examination into the accident.
