Five Killed in High-Speed Crash in Santa Ana; Victims Include Valley High School Students
SANTA ANA, CA (April 5, 2025) – A devastating single-vehicle crash late Saturday night has left five people dead and one critically injured after a car slammed into a palm tree in Santa Ana.
The incident occurred at approximately 11:25 p.m. on April 5 along Segerstrom Avenue, between Raitt and Greenville streets, according to the Santa Ana Police Department.
18 Year Old Male Driving A Lexus At A High Rate of Speed Lost Control
Authorities say an 18-year-old male was driving a small white Lexus sedan westbound on Segerstrom at high speed when he lost control of the vehicle, veering into the median and crashing into a palm tree. The force of the impact caused the car to wrap around the tree sideways.
The vehicle was carrying six people — two adults and four teenagers, all of whom were close friends. The teens were students at Valley High School in Santa Ana. Among the victims were two sets of sisters. The adults were also among those killed.
Sole Survivor Remains In Critical Condition In Hospital
Emergency responders arrived at the scene to find two individuals ejected from the vehicle. Four others remained trapped inside the wreckage, and were pronounced dead at the scene. One of the ejected occupants later died at the hospital from severe injuries. The sole survivor remains hospitalized in critical condition.
Authorities have not yet released the names of the victims. The Santa Ana Police Department is leading the ongoing investigation into the crash. While the cause has not been officially determined, investigators noted that some of the passengers were not wearing seatbelts. It remains unclear if drugs or alcohol played a role in the incident.
