Woman Killed When Driver Crashes into Santa Ana Police Vehicle

SANTA ANA, CA (November 23, 2020) – On Friday night in Santa Ana, Selina Resendiz Yanez was killed when the driver of the vehicle she was traveling in crashed into a police car. The November 20 incident occurred on N. Lowell Street.

The time was roughly 10:35 p.m., according to Anthony Bertagna. Bertagna is a corporal with Santa Ana Police.

Officers had responded to a call regarding a trespassing incident at 1300 N. Lowell Street. As they were about to depart, a vehicle–described as a Honda–collided head-on with their patrol vehicle, which had been parked.

Responders arrived and transported a passenger who had been inside the Honda to the Orange County Global Medical Center. She died in the hospital.

Kelley Keyes, who is a deputy coroner for Orange County, identified the victim as Selina Resendiz Yanez, a resident of Santa Ana, 25 years old.

Responders also transported two officers who had been inside the patrol vehicle when it was struck. The types of injuries they suffered have not been reported, nor have their identities.

Authorities arrested the driver of the Honda on suspicion of felony vehicular manslaughter while driving under the influence. He was identified as Jesus Emmanuel Perez, a resident of Santa Ana.

Investigators are continuing their work on the incident.
