Man Falls into Roadway with His Bike in Santa Ana and is Struck and Killed
SANTA ANA, CA (May 7, 2019) – A man who had been riding a bicycle in Santa Ana fell into a street with it and was hit and killed by a vehicle. The May 5 accident occurred in the vicinity of First Street and Standard Avenue.
The time was roughly 8:30 p.m.
Reports say the man had been riding or carrying the bicycle on the sidewalk and fell into the lanes of traffic. A vehicle—described as a Dodge Charger, dark gray in color—hit the man in a location on the road that passes under a railroad crossing.
Bystanders stood around the victim where he lay in the street to protect him from other vehicles that were traveling by, police said. Officers arrived on site and found the victim down on the road in front of the Dodge.
First respondents attended to the man, and transported him to Orange County Global Medical Center. He later died. He was identified as in his 60s. His name and city of residence have not been reported.
The person who had been driving the Dodge stayed at the accident site and called for help. According to police, the driver had reported that the had been traveling at 25 miles per hour when his vehicle struck the victim. The identity of the driver, including the person’s name, age, and city of residence, has not been reported.
