Rollover Crash on State Route 1 in San Simeon Injures Three; Driver Suspected of DUI
SAN SIMEON, CA (February 18, 2020) – On Sunday night, a vehicle crashed and overturned in San Simeon, injuring three people. The February 16 incident occurred on State Route 1, near Ragged Point and to the south of it.
The time was roughly 9:30 p.m., the California Highway Patrol said.
Reports say a vehicle—described as a Polaris Ranger 700—went off the roadway and fell down an embankment. The vehicle ended up on State Route 1 in the lane that heads north.
According to reports, two people had been traveling as passengers in the front, and two people had been traveling in the vehicle’s bed. All of the occupants of the vehicle—numbered at five victims—were thrown from it, the California Highway Patrol said.
None of the people had been using seatbelts. Responders from Cal Fire arrived and transported three people to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center.
The driver—identified as Zackary Boswell, 42 years old and a resident of Cambria—suffered injuries that were descrbied as mjaor. His current condition is not known.
A passenger—identified only as a man 33 years old—also suffered injuries that were described as major. His current condition is not known. His name and city of residence have not been reported.
A passenger—identified as a woman 36 years old suffered injuries that were described as minor. Her name and city of residence have not been reported.
The other two occupants of the vehicle have not been identified in reports.
Authorities arrested Boswell on suspicion of felony DUI causing injuries.
Investigators are continuing to gather information and details regarding the crash.
