Teen Suspected of Racing Hits and Kills Man and His Dog in San Marino
SAN MARINO, CA (July 5, 2019) – A man and a dog who had been walking in San Marino on Thursday morning were struck and killed by a teen boy who is suspected of street racing. The July 4 incident occurred on Huntington Drive at Kenilworth Avenue.
The time was roughly 10:35 a.m., according to Robert Matthews. Matthews is a sergeant with the San Marino Police Department.
Reports say the incident involved two vehicles—a Honda and Mercedes-Benz. Vince Wilson, who is a detective with San Marino Police, said witnesses saw the vehicles heading west on Huntington Drive at a fast speed. According to people who witnessed the incident, the vehicles involved seemed to be racing.
The Honda and the Mercedes collided, and the Mercedes went out of control. The Mercedes went onto the divider in the center of the road, and hit the man and the dog.
According to John Incontro, who is a police chief in San Marino, the victim’s girlfriend had been standing close behind the him and witnessed the incident.
Responders arrived and pronounced the man deceased at the accident site. He was identified only as a resident of San Gabriel. His name has not been reported.
According to police, the two drivers who had been involved in the incident—identified only as boys, each 17 years of age—stayed at the accident site. Police arrested the two drivers on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter.
