Driver Suspected of DUI in Stolen Car Crashes During San Marcos Pursuit
SAN MARCOS, CA (April 6, 2021) – A driver who is suspected of DUI was arrested by authorities after crashing in San Marcos early in the morning on Monday. The April 5 crash occurred on Alamitos Way.
The time was roughly a little after 12:30 a.m., according to the San Diego Sheriff’s Department.
The incident began when a deputy spotted a vehicle that was moving in an erratic manner in the area of Rancho Santa Fe Avenue and Descanso Road. According to the Sheriff’s Department, the vehicle did not have its lights illuminated.
The person driving the vehicle is alleged to have not responded when the deputy attempted to pull the driver over. The suspect driver is alleged to have fled, with the deputy pursuing.
In an area where the roadway made a bend toward Alamitos Way, the suspect driver continued driving directly forward, reports say. The suspect driver smashed through a fence, struck a tree, and came to a stop in a house’s driveway.
The suspect driver is alleged to have refused deputies’ orders, the Sheriff’s Department said, and deputies used a K-9 to help them take the driver into custody after the crash.
Responders transported the suspect driver to Palomar Hospital for treatment of his injuries, which were not described. Authorities arrested him on suspicion of possession of a stolen vehicle, violating probation, DUI, and felony evading.
The suspect was identified as John Sipp, 32 years old.
The owner of the suspected stolen vehicle has not been identified. Investigators are continuing their work.
