San Marcos Crash Off State Route 78 Kills Man
SAN MARCOS, CA (April 14, 2021) – Late in the afternoon on Tuesday in San Marcos, a crash off of State Route 78 killed a man. The April 13 incident occurred off of the westbound side of the roadway, close to where Woodland Parkway is located.
The time was roughly 5:00 p.m., according to Juan Escobar. Escobar is an officer with the California Highway Patrol.
A vehicle–described as a Dodge Charger–had been traveling on the freeway and heading west. For reasons that are not known, the car veered rightward and hit another vehicle–described as a Chevrolet Express van. The van had been stopped at the traffic light, waiting to go onto the freeway, according to Escobar.
After the initial crash, the Dodge went airborne, and smashed into trees, a chain-link fence, and four vehicles that had been in the parking lot located at 751 Rancheros Drive.
The car stopped upside down, and a number of Good Samaritans pushed the car over to right it. They took the driver out of the wrecked vehicle.
Responders pronounced the person deceased at the crash site. He was identified as a resident of Vista, 51 years old. His name has not been reported.
The person who had been driving the van was not hurt in the crash, Escobar is reported to have said. The driver was identified as 45 years old. His name and city of residence have not been reported.
Investigators are working on the details and information of the incident.
