Driver Fleeing San Luis Obispo Sheriff’s Deputies in Suspected Stolen Vehicle is Arrested
SAN LUIS OBISPO, CA (December 11, 2020) – A driver who fled from San Luis Obispo Sheriff’s deputies in a suspected stolen vehicle was arrested on Thursday following a crash with another vehicle. The December 10 incident began at the Octagon Barn located in San Luis Obispo.
The time was roughly 7:50 a.m., Tony Cipolla said. Cipolla is a public information officer with the sheriff’s department.
Deputies spotted a vehicle–which has not been described–that appeared suspicious, reports say, and when they came toward the vehicle, the driver fled. Deputies pursued the vehicle on Highway 101 southbound.
While the pursuit was occurring, a vehicle–which has also not been described–hit the vehicle the suspect was driving, causing damage that was described as minor.
The suspect continued to flee from authorities, reports say. The suspect stopped and parked the vehicle, and ran in the western part of Arroyo Grande.
According to Cipolla, deputies stopped pursuing the suspect at roughly 8:00 a.m. Not long after, officers with Arroyo Grande Police located the vehicle the suspect had been driving.
The vehicle had been stolen, according to Cipolla. The owner of the vehicle has not been identified in reports.
Grover Beach Police found the suspect on Grand Avenue at the CVS store, reports say. Authorities arrested him and gave custody to the California Highway Patrol.
The suspect was identified as Abraham Robert Finnhowell, 36 years old. The charges he faces are suspicion of resisting a public officer, attempt to evade a peace officer in a reckless manner, driving a car without consent, driving with a suspended or revoked license, receiving known stolen property, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of paraphernalia.
The investigation into the incident is continuing.
