Tanya Gil Dies in Head-on Collision with Big Rig Near San Jacinto
SAN JACINTO, CA (February 1, 2019) – Tanya Gil was killed in a head-on collision with a big rig late in the morning on Wednesday near San Jacinto. The January 30 accident occurred on Gilman Springs Road, near Bridge Street and to the east of it.
Reports say Gil—31 years old and a resident of Hemet—had been a passenger in the vehicle at the time of the crash. The vehicle—described as a Dodge Durango—was reported as stolen in Victorville, according to the California Highway Patrol.
According to reports, the Dodge had been traveling west on Gilman Springs Road. The big rig—described as a tractor-trailer—had been heading east. The California Highway Patrol said that the Dodge’s driver—identified as Issa Mojaddidi, a 30-year-old resident of Moreno Valley—had let the vehicle drift and travel on the road’s shoulder.
Mojaddidi lost control of the vehicle when he attempted to return to the road and over-corrected his steering. According to the California Highway Patrol, the Dodge spun out into the lane of opposing traffic, and into the path of the oncoming tractor-trailer.
Reports say that the two vehicles collided, and that Gil and Mojaddidi were thrown from the Dodge. After the impact from the crash, the Dodge erupted in flames. The Riverside County Coroner’s Office identified Gil as the person who died in the crash. Respondents took Mojaddidi, who suffered injuries that were described as serious, to the hospital. His current condition is not known.
The person who had been driving the tractor-trailer—identified as a man 57 years old from Los Angeles—was not hurt in the crash, reports say.
Investigators are examining the details and information regarding the accident. According to reports, the head-on collision was the second deadly accident in the same area in a 12-hour period. In an earlier accident, which occurred on Highway 79 in the evening on Tuesday, a man 72 years old and a resident of San Jacinto was killed. According to the California Highway Patrol, the man who was killed in the earlier collision had also drifted into oncoming traffic.
