Navy Jet Crashes into Bay Near Shelter Island
SAN DIEGO, CA (February 12, 2025) – A military fighter jet crashed into the San Diego Bay near Shelter Island on Wednesday morning, February 12, prompting an emergency response from local authorities.
According to the Fire-Rescue Department, the aircraft, carrying two pilots, went down at approximately 10:15 a.m. A video of the incident showed the jet nosediving at high speed before hitting the water.
Both Navy Pilots Ejected Safely Before Crashing Into The Bay
Both pilots ejected safely before impact and were conscious when rescuers pulled them from the bay. They were transferred onto a U.S. Customs and Border Protection boat and taken to UC San Diego Medical Center. While the extent of their injuries was not immediately known, military officials reported that both were in stable condition.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Authorities continue to urge caution and adherence to safety protocols to minimize the risk of aviation accidents.
