San Diego Man in Wheelchair Killed in Collision on 8 Freeway

Disabled Pedestrian Struck and Killed on 8 Fwy Near Highway 125
SAN DIEGO, CA (September 29, 2024) – A man in a wheelchair was fatally struck by a vehicle on the 8 Freeway near Highway 125 late Sunday night. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the incident occurred around 9:50 p.m. when the pedestrian was crossing the East County Highway.
Driver May Have Been DUI, But That Is Not Confirmed At This Time
The driver of a Mercedes-Benz, traveling at approximately 45 mph, hit the man. CHP officers suspect the driver may have been under the influence at the time of the crash.
Emergency responders arrived quickly, and the critically injured victim was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later died. The identity of the victim has not yet been released.
CHP officers are continuing their investigation to determine whether DUI was a factor in the collision. Authorities are asking anyone with information regarding the accident to contact them.
