Vehicle Hits and Kills Pedestrian on SR-52 in University City Neighborhood of San Diego
SAN DIEGO, CA (February 28, 2019) – A pedestrian died early in the morning on Thursday after being struck by a vehicle in the University City neighborhood of San Diego. The February 28 accident occurred on state Route 52.
The time was a little before 4:30 a.m.
Tommy Doerr, who is an officer with the California Highway Patrol, said the incident occurred on the road’s eastbound side, close to Genesee Avenue. Doerr said the victim was pronounced deceased at the accident scene.
It is not known where the victim was when the accident happened, whether the victim had been trying to cross the road or was walking alongside of it. The identity of the victim—including the person’s name, age, gender, and city of residence—has not yet been reported.
The type of vehicle that struck the victim is not known, nor is the identity of the driver. Reports do not yet include the driver’s name, age, gender, or city of residence. It is not known if anyone had been traveling as a passenger in the vehicle at the time of the accident.
Investigators are examining the details to find the sequence of events that led to the accident. The search is underway to understand.
