Two Injured When Big Rig and Car Collide on SR-163 in Kearney Mesa Area
SAN DIEGO, CA (November 26, 2019) – On Monday morning, two people were seriously injured when a car and a big rig collided on SR-163 in San Diego’s Kearny Mesa area. The November 25 incident occurred close to Clairemont Mesa Boulevard.
The time was roughly 9:30 a.m., according to Jim Bettencourt. Bettencourt is an officer with the California Highway Patrol.
Reports say both vehicles had been heading northbound when the incident occurred. A person who witnessed the incident said the car—described as a Mazda sedan—had spun out. A big rig then hit the car.
The driver of the Mazda was identified only as a woman. Her name, age, and city of residence have not been reported. Traveling with her was a child. Both people suffered injuries that were described as serious.
Responders arrived and transported the woman to Sharp Memorial Hospital. The types of injuries she suffered have not been reported. Her current condition is not known.
Responders transported the child to Rady Children’s Hospital, according to Monica Munoz. Munoz is a spokesperson with San Diego Fire-Rescue. The types of injuries the child suffered, and the child’s current condition, are not known.
The person who had been driving the big rig stayed at the incident site. According to reports, the driver was not hurt. The identity of the driver, including name, age, gender, and city of residence, has not been reported.
