Teenager Struck and Seriously Injured on West Mission Bay Drive in San Diego
SAN DIEGO, CA (March 1, 2021) – Early in the evening on Sunday, a teenager was struck and seriously injured in the area of Mission Beach in San Diego. The February 28 incident occurred on West Mission Bay Drive, in an area to the east of Bayside Lane.
The time was roughly 6:55 p.m., according to John Buttle. Buttle is an officer with San Diego Police.
The pedestrian had been walking within a crosswalk that is marked, according to Buttle. A vehicle–described as a Lexus sedan–is alleged to have gone through a light that was red in the area of a parking lot for Bonita Cove. The Lexus hit the pedestrian.
Responders arrived and transported the injured girl to the hospital. She suffered injuries that include facial fractures, a broken leg and arm, and a brain bleed. Her injuries were described as life threatening.
She was identified only as 17 years old. Her city of residence has not been reported.
The person who had been driving the car stayed at the crash site. He was identified only as 63 years old. His name and city of residence have not been reported.
Investigators are continuing to work on the incident.
