Street Sweeper Hits and Kills Pedestrian in San Diego’s Kearny Mesa
SAN DIEGO, CA (April 12, 2021) – On Sunday night in the Kearny Mesa area of San Diego, a pedestrian was struck and killed by a street sweeper. The April 11 incident occurred not far from State Route 163, where Overland Drive and Clairemont Mesa Boulevard intersect.
The time was roughly a little after 10:00 p.m., according to John Buttle. Buttle is an officer with San Diego Police.
According to Buttle, the pedestrian–identified only as a woman–may have been standing in the crosswalk and was not moving when she was struck. The vehicle that hit her–described as a Toyota Tundra street sweeper–had been traveling on Clairemont Mesa Boulevard and heading west when the accident occurred.
Responders arrived and pronounced the victim deceased at the crash site. Her name, age, and city of residence have not been reported.
The person who had been driving the street sweeper was identified as a man, 35 years old. His name has not been reported.
Investigators are working to collect information to understand why the crash happened.
