SAN DIEGO, CA (July 23, 2018) – Six people were injured Sunday afternoon when three vehicles crashed in San Diego. The accident happened at the intersection of College Avenue and University Avenue.
The time was roughly 1:30 p.m.
According to a report, the cause of the crash may have been due to an earlier hit-and-run accident.
People who saw the accident said that a gold-colored Toyota was heading east on University Avenue. The driver, according to witnesses, ran the red light at the intersection and hit a Lexus SUV broadside. The SUV had been heading north.
The crash’s impact shoved the Lexus into a vehicle that had been stopped for the red light. Responders found a critically injured man and woman inside the Lexus. They took the victims to Scripps Mercy Hospital, Sergeant Thomas Sullivan of the San Diego Police said.
Responders also found two seriously injured people in the Toyota. They took the victims to UCSD.
Two people in the third vehicle that had been hit—a woman and a child—suffered injuries that were described as minor.
According to reports in the news, the collision involving three vehicles may have been owing to a crash that happened earlier. The Toyota hit a red vehicle and did not stop, according to reports. The driver of the red vehicle tried to pursue the Toyota.
The driver of the red vehicle came back to the accident scene after ceasing her pursuit. She was not cited or charged.
Investigators are continuing to examine the details of this crash.
